UC Hosts U.S. Embassy for “Freedom 250” Campus Talk

The University of the Cordilleras (UC), through the Global Engagements Office (GEO), welcomed representatives from the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines for the “Freedom 250” Campus Talk on April 17, 2026. The event engaged 33 Criminology and Forensic Science interns in a high-level dialogue concerning the enduring U.S.-Philippine alliance.

The visiting delegation from the embassy’s Public Diplomacy Section featured Mr. Chad Kinnear, Deputy Director of Public Engagement, and Ms. Christine Catindig, Public Engagement Specialist. As the keynote speaker, Mr. Chad Kinnear shared insights into the “Freedom 250” initiative, which commemorates the upcoming 250th anniversary of United States independence.

During his address, Mr. Kinnear highlighted the deep-rooted relationship between the two nations. He spoke specifically about the historical bond between the United States and Baguio City, noting how the city’s origins serve as a symbol of the long-standing friendship between the two countries. For the student interns, the talk provided a perspective on how the U.S.-Philippine alliance has been shaped by a shared history, illustrating the role of their specialized fields of law enforcement and forensic science within this broader international context.

The session concluded with an interactive dialogue, where students engaged directly with the embassy representatives on the importance of cooperation and our shared history. This engagement continues to strengthen UC’s institutional ties with international diplomatic partners, providing students with a broader perspective on their roles within the justice system.
